Board of Directors

We'd like to present this year's NTSC Board of Directors. As you can see, we have a whole lot of enthusiasm and dedication rolled into one great big Board. It's going to be a great year, so wax up those skis and boards, because it is going to be a great winter season! Come on, let winter excite you too!

This will be my fifth season in NTSC and like most of you, I love skiing. I don't understand "those people" who would sacrifice a perfectly good ski season by going south for vacation. I have tried every form of skiing with the club: cross country, downhill and boarding and can appreciate them all. So I certainly encourage you to make full use of the club and try out everything this year.

Once again I have used my special forecasting abilities (day job) and can assure you that the Magic 8 Ball says that things are "looking good" when asked: "what are the 2009-10 snow conditions going to be like?"

Well, see you on the trails and slopes.

Michael Leigh

I have been an active member in our club for a number of years volunteering in many roles such as bus captain, chair person, day trip director, charters director and general socials director and have enjoyed every moment of it. I have learned how to ski and snowboard through the excellent instruction given by various ski/snowboard instructors and made many good friends over the years. I now realize that that we all have one thing in common: we all enjoy the outdoors and we all like to socialize! The only way to get the most out of your membership is to get out there and get involved and participate in the great activities and events that fellow members work hard to put together for all to enjoy. I look forward to meeting everyone this season!

NTSC offers members an excellent way to enjoy the winter. Having been a member for a few seasons, I am glad to help our club in the capacity of Secretary/Director of Finance for this season. Looking forward to seeing you all on the slopes.

I was a new member to the club last year, and honestly, it was the best winter I ever had! I am very excited to act as the Treasurer this season and I can't wait to hit the slopes!

Steve Burchmore, Marketing and Membership
Phone: 905.475.3934
E-Mail: membership@northtorontoskiclub.com

Steve's been a member of NTSC since 1991 and this is his fifth tour on the Board, having served previously as Vice President, President and twice as Director of General Socials. He's also a ski instructor with NTSC's alpine ski & snowboard school. Like many of the club's "home grown" instructors, he started out by taking lessons with the club to improve his skiing and went on to get his CSIA certification in 2001.

An ex-Montrealer who was spoiled by the luxury of living less than a 45 minute drive away from Mt. St. Sauveur, Steve 'fessed up that he went into culture shock the first time he skied in Ontario (nice beginner's terrain… whaddya mean that's THE hill?? Last call? But it's only 6:00!). Then, he joined a travelling ski club and has never looked back. What he enjoys most about being a member is the opportunity to ski all kinds of places he wouldn't ordinarily go to… or could even find… improve his skiing and most of all, get to meet and ski with all kinds of fun people. And when you think about it, that's really what NTSC is all about.

NTSC prides itself on being known as the Friendly Club. This year's Marketing & Membership focus will concentrate on the Membership aspect, going out of the way to help make new and returning members feel welcome and have their best year ever with the club. Now, if we can all just … Think MORE Snow!

ali Ali Pajoomans, Alpine Daytrips
Phone: 416.523.7271
E-Mail: alpinedaytrips@northtorontoskiclub.com

Joined NTSC as a new member last year and became a snowboard instructor with the club early in the season. I am one of those people that will be very happy to get stuck in a snow-storm-rush-hour-traffic-jam in Toronto, because that means I get to go snowboarding.

Alpine Day trips consists of almost half of the club's activities during the season. This year I am very proud to be part of a very enthusiastic and experienced team to bring the members the best time possible on the local hills.

As always please remember that this a is volunteer run club and we are always looking for members to step up and help out. An easy and very fun way to do that is becoming a Bus Captain on day trips. Please contact me if you wish to volunteer or have any questions or comments.

Cheers.

scott Scott Roberts, Alpine Ski and Snowboard School
Phone: 905.271.7573
E-Mail: skischool@northtorontoskiclub.com

Scott started his ski instructing career right here with NTSC seven years ago. Now in his 8th season with the club, you can find Scott on most Saturday and Sunday Alpine Day Trips, and the occasional Wednesday day trip enjoying the excellent snow conditions Ontario hills have to offer.

Your NTSC Alpine Ski and Snowboard School looks forward to offering members a fun and enjoyable learning experience. With over 55 certified CSIA/CASI/CSCF instructors, the school is well equipped to provide lessons to members and guests on all day trips, at any level, from never-evers right up to experts. Day trips offer a two-hour lesson in the morning that is included in your membership fee. For the real keeners, private lessons are also available each afternoon at reasonable rates.

In addition to the regular day trip lessons, your NTSC Alpine Ski and Snowboard School will continue to offer specific clinics to meet the demands of our membership. Some of the proposed clinics are racing, bumps and carving. The NTSC Ski and Snowboard School looks forward to serving your needs.

This will be Allison's 10th season with NTSC. During this time she has been an active member volunteering her time on the board and with various committees. Just recently, Allison was awarded the Floyd-Levitt Trophy for most contributing female volunteer in 08/09. She has led the Special Social portfolio twice as director and has been a member of the Charters, Alpine Day Trips and Membership & Marketing committees. Allison has also held the role of Vice President and served 2 terms as club President. This year she will be leading the Charters team to plan weekend and weeklong trips that are exciting, fun and affordable to give our members a great experience at an inclusive price. You will find Allison on Saturday and Wednesday Day Trips where she is a Level 3 ski instructor with our snow school.

Jennifer Lea, Nordic
Phone: 416.465.1487
E-Mail: nordic@northtorontoskiclub.com

I joined NTSC in 2007 and quickly became an enthusiastic Nordic skier. I want to bring that enthusiasm to my role on the NTSC Board. I began my volunteer activities with NTSC last year, when I became Chair of the hiking program.

Nordic day trips will be even more fun this year, with lessons, dinners, après and other special events. If you haven't tried Nordic yet, come on out! We promise to pick you up, dust you off and not laugh (much). Actually, you can start enjoying Nordic skiing right away - the technique feels very natural, you are surrounded by beautiful scenery and you meet the friendliest people. I know I did!

bunmi Bunmi Adeoye , Special Socials
Phone: 417.827.2331
E-Mail: specialsocials@northtorontoskiclub.com

Bunmi Adeoye has been a member of NTSC for four (or maybe five) years. Once upon a time, she hated the winter, but now she loves it ever since she learned to ski with the club! Initially, Bunmi wanted to ski so she could wear cute ski outfits and drink hot chocolate while she pranced around the chalet. She soon realised that being on the hills is where it's all at. This year she hopes to try some snowboarding and nordic skiing. (They both have cuter outfits anyway.) Hope to talk with you soon on the hills and at the socials!! Have a great season!!

allison Allison Covey, General Socials
Phone: 416.322.6537
E-Mail: generalsocials@northtorontoskiclub.com

Allison joined NTSC as a new member two seasons ago after many years trapped in Texas with only astroturf to ski on (no, really). After an awesome first season of Alpine, Nordic and even a taste of Snowboarding, she knew she wanted to get more involved. Denied a promotion from bus captain to bus driver, she decided to run for the board instead.

Allison and her team are committed to keeping the NTSC name synonymous with unparallelled opportunities and expertise in both the sport and social arenas. They have made your questions, concerns and ideas a priority and look forward to putting your input into action to make the 2009-2010 season the best yet!
